Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0: Free LPG Connection Guide
PMUY 2.0 helps an eligible adult woman in a poor household obtain an LPG connection without a security deposit, with specified first-refill and stove benefits.
Eligibility: Woman aged 18 or older from an eligible poor household; no existing OMC LPG connection in the household; KYC and deprivation declaration required.
What is PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) helps eligible poor households switch to cleaner cooking fuel through an LPG connection issued in the name of an adult woman. The current PMUY website describes additional connections under the scheme and provides an application route. News about older allocations or deadlines should not be treated as a guarantee that a connection is available at every distributor. Check the official PMUY application page and your selected LPG distributor before applying. This independent site explains the process but does not accept government applications.
Who can apply?
An applicant must be a woman at least 18 years old and meet the poor-household criteria, including the applicable deprivation declaration. There must be no existing domestic LPG connection from an oil marketing company in the same household. This is a household-level test, not simply a check of the individual applicant name. The distributor may inspect family composition and other supporting records. A change of mobile number or address does not automatically remove the existing-connection restriction.
Benefits included in the package
The official PMUY FAQ describes a security-deposit-free domestic LPG connection with prescribed cylinder options, pressure regulator, safety hose and consumer booklet. Eligible beneficiaries are also offered the first refill and a two-burner stove under the specified arrangement. This is not unlimited free LPG for life. Future refills are governed by prevailing prices and any separately applicable subsidy rules. Ask the authorized distributor which items are included and keep the acknowledgement.
Documents to prepare
Applicants should normally prepare the KYC form, Aadhaar for the woman applicant, a ration card or accepted government record of family composition, Aadhaar details of adult household members in that record, bank account details, and the prescribed deprivation declaration. An address document or permitted self-declaration may be needed when the current residence differs from Aadhaar. The official scheme page describes a special declaration route for migrant households. Never send OTPs, PINs or banking passwords to an agent.
Step-by-step application
Step 1: Open the official PMUY 2.0 application page and read eligibility. Step 2: Select the authorised oil company route or contact a chosen LPG distributor. Step 3: Submit accurate KYC details and the household/identity documents. Step 4: Ask for an application acknowledgement and track verification. Step 5: After approval, check that the connection package matches the official benefit description. Submission is not the same as sanction. Avoid unofficial forms that demand payment to speed up an application.
If your application is delayed
Contact the distributor using the application reference and ask whether the delay concerns KYC, family-member Aadhaar, address proof or an existing connection. Correct errors only through authorised channels. The official FAQ states that the specified PMUY connection package should not involve a payment to the distributor by the beneficiary. If you encounter an unexpected charge, use the oil company grievance channel and record the issue. Local availability and final checks are controlled by the official scheme authorities.
